Type 2 Diabetes - Your Blood Sugar Levels Will Improve In Days When You Start to Eat Healthy Food
Blindness, dementia, amputations and death - just some of the complications that arise due to a Type 2 diabetic allowing themselves to become sicker and sicker as the years go by. The good news is something can be done about this, and these secondary complications do not have to be mapped out in your future.
The secret to helping yourself avoid these complications is to eat healthier, which really is not a big secret at all. Many people promote the benefits of what eating healthier can do for a diabetic but, in reality, not enough Type 2 diabetics are doing it. If they were, the numbers of people being diagnosed with this form of diabetes yearly would be dropping, not increasing to such high figures.
The reality is, if you start eating a healthier diet your blood sugar levels will improve in a matter of days. That's right I said days - not weeks, not months. Days.
It might sound too good to be true to some people, but the reality is your body was not designed to eat in any other way and the reason you developed Type 2 diabetes was in part, if not fully, because of your unhealthy diet that overtaxed your pancreas and so wore out the cells that produce insulin.
In a nutshell the reason you don't produce enough insulin now is because your pancreas is worn out from giving your body more carbohydrate than it knew what to do with.
What is a healthy diet for a diabetic?
To improve your blood sugar levels in a matter of days, try eating 3 to 4 regular sized meals a day consisting of the following:
several servings of low-GI whole grain carbohydrates and vegetables a day.
ensure you get plenty of fiber in your diet - 35 to 50 grams a day. Most of it being soluble is best - so leave the skin on your vegetables.
eat protein for breakfast. The recommended daily protein intake is three-fourths of your ideal weight in grams.
keep low-GI fruits to a minimum.
keep saturated fat and cholesterol containing foods to a minimum but do not avoid completely.
avoid products that contain refined grains and sugars like cakes, pastries and cookies.
avoid soft drinks that contain sugar in all its available forms, i.e. refined honey, high fructose corn syrup, and agave
The following lifestyle habits should be avoided also as they are known to cause problems with blood sugar, avoid...
alcohol,
caffeine, and
smoking.
