How Poultry Farming Is Done in India

Poultry farming is a practice of raising chickens, poultry, ducks, turkeys, and other fowl, for the purpose of farming eggs

or meat for food. Poultry farms can be of two types depending upon the purpose.

1. Breeding farms where poultry is raised for meat, or
2. Layer farms where eggs are produced.

The poultry farming in India has a vital importance because the eggs and chicken meat are rich and cheaper sources of

vitamins, minerals, and protein. Poultry farming in India is an excellent source of income and provides employment to

millions of farmers and other persons that are engaged in activities associated with the poultry industry. Chicken is widely

accepted in India as compared to beef or pork because it does not raise any religious issue.

Moreover, chicken meat is cheaper than mutton or goat meat. Many Indian families, especially the educated people, are using

eggs as a regular part of their vegetarian diet. The forecast surveys indicate that demand for eggs and chicken meat in next

2-3 decades will increase rapidly in the country. India's 75% of the total egg production is consumed by the 25% people,
