Statistics demonstrate that nearly half of the total
children ages 10 to 20 don't exercise. A number of
researches demonstrate lack of exercise and laziness as
a leading cause of obesity and heart problems. Many
scientists have shown that nearly 70 percent of the
children obese in their teens remain obese in later
stages of their life. Thus, fighting obesity at an
early age and keeping your children physically active
is of dire importance. Here are a number of ways that
can help you to keep your children physically fit and
active.
Find a fun activity:
First you must find fun activities for your children.
Obviously enough, children cannot be taught by force.
Nor can you make your children be active by simply
telling them to do something. You have to look for some
smart way out. Find out games in which your child could
be interested for instance hockey, volleyball or
football.
Find a mentally suitable activity:
It is necessary for the activity to be on a child's
level. If you try to make your five year old play
hockey, it may not work. Five year olds must be
indulged in the activity like simple running or playing
with a ball. Likewise football is appropriate for the
children above 10 years of age.
Make schedules:
No activity can be effective if done intermittently.
Irregularity leads to laziness. No differently then you
plan out your day, you must plan out your child's
schedule, including physical activity.
Set goals:
It is also important to make sure that you have set
goals for your child. Perhaps it's getting outside for
30 minutes a day. Maybe your child has a goal of
running a mile. Regardless of the goal, help set and
achieve them. This could be very effective in keeping
your children interested.
Add milestones and incentives:
Furthermore, you can add milestones and fix incentives
as well as rewards to keep the motivation level of your
children high. Rewards don't have to be elaborate, it
can be as simple as extra free time or getting to pick
the board game for family game night.
Reduce television and computer timing:
It is very important to reduce television time for all
children. The same goes for video games and computer
time. Show your child how fun life can be "unplugged."
Present yourself as an active role-model:
Most important of all is to engage in activities with
your children and be active. Children learn by example.
So you need to present yourself as a good role model.
The more active you are, the more active your child
will be. Play with your children and this could be
highly motivating for your children.
