The question is often asked, "Is it OK to hunt and kill an animal?"
Many think since animals have feelings it is not the right thing to do to kill one. They feel there is something inhuman about it.
Vegetarians base their whole belief on that one principle along with the belief that consuming meat, especially red meat is harmful to our bodies.
While there may be some truth to the idea that consuming red meat is harmful, we need to remember that each individual body is different. What may be harmful to one is beneficial to another.
I, for one, need larger amounts of protein than some others may require. If I don't consume protein on a somewhat daily basis, my body doesn't function like it needs to. All that taken into consideration, consuming red meat three times a day would be overkill. No pun intended.
I grew up on a farm in the Midwest, we always consumed red meat, and a lot of it. We never gave much thought to rather it was right or wrong, that never entered into the equation. I learned to hunt small game at an early age, and we always appreciated fresh rabbit at meal time.
Many times the meat we were consuming were cattle that we had home grown and became friends with. The good Lord created cattle and they were created for eating and supplying milk, how else could it be?
It wasn't until many years later that I even thought there may be something wrong with my logic. Vegetarianism had taken hold and often times people tried to make us to feel guilty for eating red meat,It didn't make much sense to me. People were saying the meat was unhealthy and it was cruel to kill an animal.
Humans have been eating meat for thousands of years, my own family were big meat eaters, and most lived well into their nineties, how could meat be unhealthy? My family had no cancer or any of the other diseases experts said came from eating meat. If meat was unhealthy, we would all be dead.
I had read in the bible that God gave dominion over all the earth and all the creatures therein. What, all these animals are roaming around and we aren't supposed to eat them? Plants are living organisms also, why can we eat them, this just doesn't make sense.
The American Indians, who are thought to be so spiritual, ate animals. Why would they eat meat if their creator thought they shouldn't?.
They would hunt and kill animals every day, and use every part of the animal. They didn't have guns, or even horses until the white man brought them here, it was hard for them to kill animals, in particular buffalo. Hence, they made sure to use every part of the animal, and not waste anything.
It is evident they had no qualms about eating meat, in fact their livelihood depended on it.
A wise sage once told me,"It is all right to hunt and kill, as long as the animal is not killed needlessly. Part of their mission on earth is to provide food and nourishment for us, but to needlessly hunt and not use the animal for a purpose is wrong."
Animals, just like us are evolving constantly, becoming something than they were. Who are we to deny them their evolvement by not letting them fulfill their mission?
